A Prickly Affair

If you've not read Hugh Warwick's "A Prickly Affair" then I urge you to do so. If ever there was one book that championed the hedgehog then this is it. Warwick explains convincingly how the humble hedgehog can save the world! It's a fascinating book and should appeal not only to rabid fans of this little insectivore (like me and some of you reading this blog) but also to those who up until now only had a passing interest in wildlife.

A Prickly Affair: The Charm of the Hedgehog is out in paperback today.

Meanwhile here is an article from yesterday's Independent in which Hugh Warwick explains why hedgehogs are heroes of the garden.

  1. It is true what he says in the article, that people would rather jet off and see lions and tigers than wait quietly for a hedgehog or fox to appear.

  3. I'd love to see lions and tigers in their native habitat but I also love seeing the wealth of wildlife that we have in our own country, and in the case of animals like the hedgehog - quite literally in our own back yard!

In that Independent article, Hugh Warwick talks about the moment he came face to face with Nigel - I've had a moment almost exactly like that. It really is quite special.
