I don't seem to be having as many hedgehog visitors as usual these past few days. The food seems to be in the bowls for longer and I just don't see many hogs when I look out the back. The above-pictured hog is the only one that I've seen tonight. I'm sure others will be along later.
I left the infrared camera out last night (I'll make and post a movie tomorrow) and considering it was out all night there wasn't that much hedgehog action. The footage was mainly of a single hog at a time, with a couple of clips showing two hogs. And to think only a couple of weeks ago the garden was busy with hedgehogs and one night I saw four together at the same time.

Thanks for this blog. The photo's and info are great for someone like me (someone who until a couple of nights ago had never seen a hedgehog up close). We had 2 in our garden a couple of nights ago and only knew hey were there because of the racket they were making. Really loud huffing and puffing but because our garden is fairly large (and dark) it took a bit of working out to see what the noise was. I was so excited to see them! They were there for hours getting at the worms in our bark cover (I presume) but haven't been back since...at least I haven't heard them since...
ReplyDeleteAnyway, sorry to ramble, just wanted to say I'm a lurker who enjoys your updates :)
I just love your blog. The photos are pretty fantastic. Like your feeding station that you made. Will give that a go myself. To keep the food safer from the local cats.
ReplyDeleteWillpar - thanks for those comments! You've got a pretty nice blog yourself. I've just added it to my links.
ReplyDeleteSilver Thistle - nice to hear from you. Lots of people say they've never seen a hedgehog - I suppose you just have to be in the right place at the right time. Yes, and you often hear them before you see them! If you can make sure you have a regularly topped-up bowl of water out in the garden. It'll attract birds and hedgehogs.
